In Gary's Words

Originally I came to Yoga as a way of healing my physical body. I was 44 and a lot of little problems were turning into bigger problems. Slowly with time the physical problems began to subside as I practiced Yoga. Then I began to discover there were more subtleties going on at the emotional level that needed healing as well. Yoga began to make those slowly subside as well. During this process I was going to workshops where ever I could find them. At one point I went to a workshop with Stephanie Keach and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It came to my attention she was offering teacher training. At the time I wasn't interested in teaching but thought this would be a wonderful way to increase my knowledge. Well, it seems the universe had other plans for me. Immediately upon completing the training a friend had an accident and needed help teaching her Yoga classes. Here it is four years later and I'm still teaching and running a Yoga space for all of us. I've found that Yoga brings healing, fulfillment and peace to each person in just the way that they need at the time. It's my great privilege to help each student discover that path to their personal self fulfillment and I thank each student for that honor.

Thai Yoga Bodywork

Thai Yoga Bodywork has often been described as assisted hatha yoga. It is a technique with roots in the ancient healing traditions of Ayurveda and Thai Buddhism, leading to greater physical awareness, grace and spiritual energy. Performed on a floor mat in comfortable clothes, this massage incorporates tai chi moves, rhythmic motion, palming and thumbing along energy lines, gentle stretching and breath work. Using hands, feet, arms and legs, the practitioner guides the recipient through a series of yoga postures, creating a harmonious and therapeutic “dance.”

Charleston Yoga is currently accepting clients for Thai Yoga Bodywork. Sessions may be done in your home or Charleston Yoga Studio. Price for a one hour session is $50 in Gary's Studio and $60 in your home or personal space.

These are some examples of Thai Yoga movements. A typical session will last approximately one hour.
